What Is An LPG Hose?

An LPG hose is a flexible tube designed to transfer liquefied petroleum gas between compatible parts of a gas system, such as a cylinder, regulator and appliance. It must resist the gas, contain the operating pressure and use suitable connections. A simplified cylinder system may operate in this order:

LPG cylinder → regulator → approved hose → appliance

The regulator controls the pressure supplied to the appliance. The hose then carries the gas through a flexible connection.

Some systems position hose sections differently, so the installer must understand whether the hose operates before or after pressure regulation.

This distinction affects the required working pressure and assembly design.

The hose should be inspected according to the appliance instructions and local safety rules. Warning signs may include:

  • Cracks

  • Hardening

  • Soft or swollen areas

  • Cuts and abrasion

  • Loose fittings

  • Faded or unreadable markings

  • Burn damage

  • Unusual gas odour

  • Expired replacement date where applicable

A suspected leak should never be checked with a flame. Shut off the gas supply, ventilate the area where appropriate and follow local emergency or qualified-service procedures.
